In 1881 traveling shoe salesman Daniel Green visited a felt factory and noticed the workers had fashioned cozy slippers out of scraps of piano felt. Daniel and his brother William began manufacturing these felt shoes and slippers with the factory owner, Mr Dolge. By 1885 the shoe line expanded and could be worn in the boudoir or the street.
